Spring Lambs

The weekly sale of spring lambs at Lancaster had an increased entry of 876 forward selling an overall market average of 221p/kg. It was the consignment of lambs from Wannop Farms, Heaton with Oxcliffe that lead the way today, topping the market with 49kg Beltex lambs at £130. This was closely followed by 43kg Beltex lambs selling to £124.50 or a top pence kilogram of 290p/kg, from the same home. Other pens from the Wannop Family sold to £123.

Texel lambs sold to a top of £115 from CD & HL Mason, Caton Green with Texel lambs from Wannop Farms achieving the same price. Closely following this was Texel lambs from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof to £114 and JS Horner, Clapham selling to £111 and £109. Many more pens of better conformation and heavy weight Texel lambs sold between £100 and £110. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £108 from AG Butler, Hambleton closely followed by £100 from SL Cowgill, Mewith with other Suffolk lambs to £99 from M & P Gardner, Nateby. Mule lambs this week peaked at £84 for 40kg lambs from S Park, Aughton.

Prime Hoggs

There was a few more prime hoggs in the market today as demand for hoggs grows with the upcoming festival at the end of July. Hoggs topped at £85 from J France, Pilling with all hoggs forward averaging in the early eighties.

Cast Sheep

There was a much-increased entry of 251 cast sheep today in Lancaster. Leading the way were Texel ewes from MP Berry, Stalmine selling to £125 and £121. Plenty of Continental ewes selling in excess of the hundred-pound mark. Cheviot ewes sold to a top of £81 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Mule ewes sold to a top of £79 from J & H Huddleston, Brookhouse with plenty of pens of Mule ewes in the mid to late seventies.
